About the event
The Terra Nostra Ensemble begins the season with a journey to the southern tip of South America. Argentina is most famous for its tangos, and the Nuevo Tango style popularized by Astor Piazzolla, which bridges classical and folk traditions. In that spirit, this program includes Ginastera’s String Quartet No. 1, a classical quartet written by Piazzolla’s teacher and mentor, Mauricio Oliveros' arrangement of the classic song “Alfonsina y el Mar,” and a set of tangos with internationally renowned Venezuelan violinist, Eddy Mercado.
